Thresher Shark Dives in Malapascua

Phenomenal! I’m an American dive instructor and definitely more critical than the average diver and possibly a little spoiled 😬, who was lucky enough to be recommended this locally owned dive shop. They were very well organized, professional, skilled, safety conscious, helpful, knowledgeable, great communicators, demonstrated a high degree of respect for the local marine life and went above and beyond to accommodate us under rather difficult weather conditions. We still managed to see many Thresher Sharks and on the occasions we were limited to sheltered sites (because of extreme weather conditions) I was very pleased by the volume of awesome critters they found for us. The owner/instructor has an impressive amount of knowledge and experience with marine life (far exceeding my own ability to even spot anything) so I was very happy despite the weather doing it’s best to sabotage.

The boat is very large and comfortable and they fed us constantly and very well. They were a very kind and fun team who took great care of us. I am looking forward to returning.

I had an incredible 4 days of diving with MTD Diveshop and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It is a local company which are very reasonable priced. My dive master Tong and Jess were both incredible. I got to see so much, it was unbelievable which obviously includes the Thresher sharks.

What I really loved is how they organised the trips so we could avoid the Kimud shoal at peak times. Jess and Tong both knew how to stay away from huge crowded areas which meant we got to see and spend more times with Thresher sharks which were a lot curious and came much closer and stayed much longer when it was just 3 of us. At one point I had 6 sharks around me, unbelievable!

I also got to see a tiger shark, white tips, lots of nudibranchs and a ton more thanks to these guys. I feel like I was diving with my friends, it was a memorable trip. I also did a sunset dive for Mandarin fish and loved that they knew where to go just at the right time, it was a delicate dance. Everything was very well organised and everyone was punctual (which is a big deal in Philippines 😂)

Overall, I highly recommend MTD Diveshop and can’t wait to return to dive with these guys again.

If you want to dive in Malapascua by being treated as a Prince, go diving with MTD Diveshop: very professional guides with deep knowledge of all diving sites, good boats, kind and efficient crews and shop clerks, great attention to divers needs, delicious breakfast snack and lunch in each diving day served on the boat with drinks, together with a valet service (they pick you up and drive you back at the resort or location where you are staying with their taxi boats). They made my holiday a great success!!
